Ah...the polish ban is in full swing but that doesn't mean I can't look, right?  I've definitely been looking and keeping up with releases and I decided it's time to update the polish wish list.  I'm way too lazy (and don't have the time) to do another image wish list so this one is going to just be text--boooooring, right?  Sorry.  The order will be major, commercial brands then indies.

Okay, this one is out of the ordinary color-wise for me.  A pastel pink base with  multi-colored glitter in it...it was my way of trying to diversify my collection.  However, this one was a fail not for the color but for the application.  I knew after painting this on my mom's nails that it was thin so I decided, like a idiot, to layer it over Alpine Snow.  It wasn't my finest moment, but, honestly, I do not own a pastel pink creme polish I could've used as the base.  It ended up coming out horribly uneven despite the white base and caused me to layer multiple times...and they came off in a day.  So much effort for ONE DAY of wear.  Yeah, not doing this again.

Colors Used:
  • Tony Moly - Shooting Star
  • OPI - Alpine Snow (base)
  • China Glaze - Midnight Kiss  (gold stripe)
  • essie - Sexy Divide (purple stripe)

Last post for the night!  Promise!  These are the nails I wore to my sister's wedding.  They were gorgeous and, oh my gosh, so awesome.  My toes matched so it was a flakie overload.  My nails were jewelry on their own!

Polishes Used:

  • essie - Dive Bar (base)
  • Nfu Oh - No. 52 (blue flakie)
  • Nfu Oh - No. 51
  • China Glaze - Midnight Kiss (gold foil)

Ocean Fly

Tuesday, May 15th, 2012 07:41 pm
aikolynn: (Krystal - Flower)
I'm playing catch up with my nail posts...I fell behind due to my sister's wedding and finals--legitimate excuses, right?  Well, it's summer now and I'm back (sort of) and hopefully I'll be able to update regularly.  There are five posts total coming your way--separated for easy linking. ^^

So, I finally did OPI's FLY on my whole nail and, let me tell you, this is a gorgeous color.  It isn't a bright teal, but one with a blackened base so it can be worn all the time.  I love that it's a creme--something rare in my polish collection.  Of course, I had to add something to it so I did flakies then decided it wasn't enough and did glitter tips.  ^^

Ocean Nails

So this is the second polish attempt out of four this past week.  I deemed them ocean nails due to the color--my favorite from Sephora by OPI.

Colors Used:
  • Sephora by OPI - Mermaid to Order
  • China Glaze - Atlantis

Sadly, these were gone in a day.  Apparently my nails, like me, were unhappy this week. *sighs*  Well, the nails I have on now--ones that I did specially for my sister's Bridal Shower--are cooperating so far. =_=;  Post to follow shortly!

I've been wearing this glitter bomb for the past three days and it's certainly eye-catching--especially in the sun!  Truthfully, I haven't wornChina Glaze's Atlantis so I was eager to try it out.  On swatches that I've done, the base color of it is pretty thin so I knew I had to layer itover something.  So that's how these turquoise glitter bomb nails were born.  And I just had to top everything off with green flakies. 8D

Painting Spring

Sunday, March 25th, 2012 01:47 am
aikolynn: (Krystal - Flower)
This past week saw colorful spring-y nails as I attempted a painted canvas look.  I honestly loved these nails and they stayed on the wholeweek!  I'll definitely be redoing this technique...but maybe I'll try different shades of blue or something along those lines. ^^

This is possibly one of the easiest nail art techniques.  I bet it looks gorgeous under black shatter too!  Probably something along these lines! ^^

Edit: WOW.  Total Fail.  I forgot to put my base color--OPI Alpine Snow.

So I finally did the color blocked nail design...and it was agony.  Although I love the way they look (they're so cool and BAMF) they took entirely too long to complete.  And my lines aren't straight.  GAH.  My first issue was picking out the colors and matching types of polishes.  Because I barely own any cremes, it was entirely too difficult since having too much shimmer/glitter doesn't look as nice.  Color wise I own a lot of blue...and at one point I had picked blue, magenta, and silver, but thought it was a bit too unintentionally patriotic.  I ended up with a blue/gold glitter, a silver holographic, and a black creme. ^^

Colors Used
  • OPI - Absolutely Alice
  • OPI - Black Onyx
  • OPI - DS Coronation
  • China Glaze - Cheers to You! (base)
I also employed the help of some sticky labels to make my lines...

Here are some tips...
  • Try to pair different types of polish with each other.  For example, I used a creme, glitter, and a holo.
  • Paint your base color the night/day before so it has ample time to dry...if not the labels will just rip the polish off and you'll have to start from scratch.
  • Have patience.  Seriously this is the most important one!
  • Start with a color that dries quickly so there is less wait time in between colors/coats.  I started with my glitter over the base since it dries faster than a creme.
  • Vary the direction of the angles on each finger to get a more edgy, non-precise look.
  • Have more patience for drying times.
  • I worked with one color at a time in a pattern on each hand (middle-bottom-top/top-middle-bottom, etc.).
  • After painting in the black and blue glitter areas, I went back in with the silver holo and carefully filled in the void left by the raised polishes.  Yes, this was free-handed, but it doesn't have to completely fill the void since the base was the same silver holo.
  • Top coat and don't expect this to be long-wearing.
I think this would even look nice with just two colors.  After painting the blue glitter triangle as a middle section, it looked cool and I was so tempted to leave it...but I didn't. ^^;  Maybe next time.  MAYBE.
